Nestled in the heart of South Africa’s Northern Cape, Olienhoutsrus Wildlife Sanctuary is a privately owned, fully off-grid conservation and hospitality destination located on the scenic Ghaap Plateau. Just 100 km from Kimberley, the sanctuary offers an exclusive escape into nature, blending sustainable living with modern comfort.
Established in 2021 by the new shareholders of Mydracht Boerdery (Pty) Ltd, Olienhoutsrus has transformed from a under developed farm with very little infrastructure into a premium wildlife retreat. Every element—from the luxury en-suite lodge and chalets to the solar-powered infrastructure and borehole-fed water supply—has been thoughtfully developed to provide guests with an authentic and comfortable experience in the wild.

Our History
The Early Days
Prior to 2021, the Olienhoutsrus property was undeveloped and served only as a transit stop for wildlife. It had no infrastructure, only three basic chalets, and was used occasionally by a businessman in the game capture industry.
New Ownership & Vision
In 2021, the current shareholders acquired Mydracht Boerdery (Pty) Ltd, taking ownership of the farm. Recognizing its untapped potential, they set out to create something extraordinary—both sustainable and luxurious.
Transformation Begins
On 1 October 2021, development officially started. A full off-grid infrastructure was installed, including solar power, borehole-fed water systems, new buildings, and extensive roadworks. The vision began to take physical shape.
A Sanctuary is Born
Today, Olienhoutsrus boasts a luxury lodge, modern chalets, workers’ quarters, a butchery, hunting hides, and stunning landscaped gardens. The property has been reborn as a premier wildlife sanctuary rooted in sustainability, comfort, and conservation.
